5.5   Other Analysis Settings

  • Maximum Slice Width - the width of the maximum slice width permitted in the analysis.
  • Minimum Slip Depth - the minimum depth of a slip surface to be considered in the analysis. Used to ignore very shallow slips.
  • Slip Entry Interval - the interval at the top surface of the slope between successive clip circle attempts from a given grid center.
  • Seismic Coefficient (k) - Dimensionless coefficient (k = a / g) representing a seismic horizontal acceleration (as a percentage of the gravitational constant g) which produces an inertial force (kW) applied in the downslope direction at the centroid of the slice. Used for pseudo-static seismic stability analysis. Any weight due to no strength (fluid) regions included a slice is not included in calculating the seismic force.

Advanced Settings

  • Allow Slice Base Tension - If enabled, trials with slices having a negative (tension) base normal force are retained in the analysis. If disabled, those trials with slices having a negative (tension) base normal force at a depth greater than the theoretical crack depth of are removed from the analysis. Enabled by default.
  • Allow Interslice Tension - If enabled, trials with slices having a negative (tension) interslice normal force are retained in the analysis. If disabled, those trials are removed from the analysis. Enabled by default.
  • Allow Interslice Shear > Available Shear - If enabled, trials with slices having a calculated interslice shear force exceeding the available shear resistance at the interslice boundary are retained in the analysis. If disabled, those trials are removed from the analysis. Enabled by default.
  • M-Alpha Warning - If the parameter mα is less than the specified value for any slice in the trial, a warning is triggered. The default value is 0. mα is defined as follows:
  • Allow M-Alpha < Warning - If enabled, trials with slices having mα less than the warning value are retained in the analysis. If disabled, those trials are removed from the analysis. Enabled by default.
  • Submerged Slopes - Toggles how external fluid forces are handled for submerged slopes. See the section on No Strength Materials and Submerged Slopes for a detailed explanation.
